Title: Applications of mmWave Heterogeneous Network in 5GmmWave meshed network, mmWave Edge Cloud, mmWave V2V/V2X

Speaker: Sakaguchi Kei

Abstract:
Millimeter-wave (mmWave) will finally come to cellular networks in 5G. mmWave small-cell plays a role to provide not only >10 Gbps data rate and 1000x system rate gain but also <1 ms latency at the same time. However, there are several practical issues to be solved to introduce mmWave small-cells in real environments, such as CAPEX/OPEX to deploy many mmWave small-cell base stations, end-to-end latency between an application server and user terminals, and unique applications to be realized only by mmWave 5G.
In this talk, three new architecture of mmWave 5G are introduced by extending baseline architecture of mmWave heterogeneous networks.
(1) mmWave mesh network to solve the issue of CAPEX/OPEX in outdoor dense environments by introducing self-backhauling technology,
(2) mmWave edge cloud to relax the latency and data rate requirements between application server and 5G RAN,
(3) mmWave V2V/V2X to exchange data of sensors, e.g. LiDAR sensor, between vehicles and road side units to realize safe automated driving.
